Get to Know Alicia Sager, LCSW
Willamette Wellness Center is home to many talented professionals. I recently chatted with Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Alicia Sager, to learn more about Alicia’s career and life outside the profession.
What brought you to this profession?
My own lived experiences: healing from complex trauma, research in University, endless curiosity of the human condition and joy connecting with others brought me into the profession. These experiences shaped me to become the caring non-binary queer femme I am today. I feel called to do the work that I do. I want to help others feel less alone and more empowered to take up space, have boundaries, come as they are and feel safe connecting with others.
What does a win in a session look like?
When clients share having a ‘aha’ moment and walking away with a new perspective. It’s also a win to witness when someone connects with their emotions. And, expresses them! Feelings are clues – when any of my clients connect with their emotions and gain insight into what they truly want (and don’t want) in their life… it is a BIG win!
True healing from a client comes when they can speak their truth.
What brought you to WWC?
I longed to build deeper connections and help my clients reach their goals in a more meaningful way. Working in big agencies left me feeling limited, with a desire to work and grow in the ways I wanted to grow. Also, Arin Wallington literally brought me to WWC two years ago and it’s the happiest I’ve ever been. WWC is aligned with my own core values: compassion, learning, growth, reciprocity, collaboration and transparency. This is the first work environment where I can say I feel supported 100%.
What do you do in your free time?
I hunt for mushrooms with my fiancé and cancer-surviving dog Henry! When not mushy hunting, you’ll most likely catch me playing video games, pinball or supporting the local metal music scene. Most of the time though, I am home hanging out with my very silly, 40-year-old macaw named William, who I have had since I was 5-years-old!
