Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Online EMDR Therapy
Are you struggling with painful memories or experiences that seem impossible to let go of? Do you feel stuck and unable to move forward in life because of past life events that you can’t seem to forget? You’re not alone, and there’s hope. At Willamette Wellness Center, we specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help clients who are living with trauma find a way to move forward.
What Is EMDR Therapy?
People who have experienced trauma process the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that come afterward in unique ways. After a painful life event, people can feel like they are stuck in a constant cycle of reliving that event, seeing the memory, feeling the pain, and reinforcing obstructive triggers. When this happens, it may feel easy to accept this cycle as your new normal, but we are here to tell you that change is possible.
EMDR is a structured, evidence-based approach designed to help people process and heal from traumatic experiences, anxiety, and other emotional challenges. It creates a safe space for an individual to explore their discomfort in a way that allows them to be vulnerable about their past without fear of their trauma overwhelming them during their session.
How Does EMDR Therapy Work?
When we experience trauma, our brain doesn’t always fully process it, and memories can feel “stuck,” resurfacing as flashbacks, anxiety, or even physical symptoms. EMDR helps by gently guiding your brain to reprocess these memories so that they no longer carry the same weight or intensity. During a session, you’ll work closely with a trained EMDR therapist who will guide you through recalling the distressing memory in small, manageable steps while using specific eye movements or other forms of stimulation to ease the process.
Can EMDR Therapy Help Me?
Our EMDR counselors are Master’s-Level counselors with specific and advanced training in EMDR. We are here to help anyone who is seeking to better understand themselves through this approach. Traumatic experiences aren’t typically a one-and-done matter. In reality, they cause lasting effects in an individual that can range anywhere from more significant symptoms like complex PTSD to compounding stress and depression. We want to emphasize that these symptoms are things to be embraced and validated, rather than avoided, so we look to extend our EMDR therapy to anyone who may be looking for a more succinct way of addressing their pain.
EMDR can be effective for various issues, including:
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Anxiety and phobias
- Depression
- Grief and loss
- Childhood trauma
- Self-esteem issues
