AMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist Associate

Hello my name is Nevada and my pronouns are they/them; it is such a pleasure to meet you!

I’ve always been captivated by this human experience and the ways we heal in community. Experiencing the world through a queer, intersectional, and gender diverse lens has broadened my understanding of the role community holds, but until I started to do work with my own therapist using an Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach, I was primarily focused on my relationship with the external world. Once I deeply understood how I was relating to my feelings, thoughts and sensations, I had greater choice in my healing and I began to see transformation in every aspect of my life; which led to a lot of excitement for me.  I was already working in Trauma Informed Care, Equity and Human Services; and I returned to school, graduating from the University of Oregon in 2023, with a Masters in Couples & Family Therapy.

As an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT-A), I hold both the relationship with the external world and with the internal world as considerations in my curious inquiry into who you are, what your strengths and passions are, and what your personal goals are.  Our work together might include deepening understanding of your relationship to the broader context; culture, family, community, experiences, traumas, language, work, etc. It might also involve tuning into your internal world; how you relate to your feelings, sensations, thoughts, etc.; what you notice in your body and what comes up for you when exploring.  With partners and families, I am likely to join with you to better understand relational dynamics, communication patterns, and what internal and external barriers might be impacting you meeting your relational goals.  Ultimately my own aim is to create an affirming space where it’s easier to bring awareness and capacity to the challenging things; because I believe awareness and presence open up opportunities for healing and for greater choice in our lives.

I work with partners (polyamorous inclusive), individuals, adults, and families.  My areas of focus include trauma healing, relational support, grief, loss, depression, PTSD, spiritual abuse/recovery, and life transitions. I utilize mindful, somatic, and attachment informed practice. I have experience working with transgender, gender diverse, neurodiverse, queer and polyamorous clients; as well as holding space around topics of identity, parenting, immigration, sex work, and integration around alternative healing modalities.  Though I am a non-native Spanish speaker, and non-Latine, my multicultural family and life experiences have led me to offer services in both Spanish and English. I received a Spanish Language Specialization from the University of Oregon in order to increase my capacities to recognize my limitations and honor those I serve when I am using my second language.   I incorporate approaches from various therapeutic modalities including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Motivational Interviewing (MI), the Gottman Method, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).  If you’d like to explore working together I’d be delighted, so please reach out!
