Andraya Hayward
LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Hello, my name is Andraya, it’s nice to meet you. My pronouns are she/her.
Being able to communicate is a human right, however many of us feel misunderstood. My approach to counseling is collaborative, working together to create and achieve your goals. My training provides art therapy as an option. Art therapy can be a powerful form of counseling; my approach is to gently guide individuals through using creative arts as an alternative form of communication. Art has the capacity to express complex thoughts and emotions beyond the capabilities of verbal language. The creative process has a way of reaching our core self, helping to identify and break down the untrue, unhelpful messages we sometimes hold onto.
As a lifetime learner, I value working with a variety of folks. My experience includes working with people of all ages, especially aging adults. Whether you’re experiencing the complexities of grief, symptoms of anxiety, depression, ADHD, eating disorder, hearing voices others don’t hear, struggling with current life situations, or feeling misunderstood – this is an opportunity for you to partner with a counselor.
My approach is flexible, tailored to individuals I work with. In addition to art therapy principles, I integrate interpersonal psychology, cognitive processing therapy (CPT), and internal family systems (IFS). I strive to provide holistic care by creating space for ALL the parts of you to have a voice.
Therapy can be a tool to gently disrupt the feelings of being stuck so you can feel more like yourself. Whether you’d like to explore what art therapy has to offer or prefer traditional talk therapy, I’m looking forward to hearing you.
2016- BS in Speech and Hearing Sciences: Portland State University
2020- MS in Art Therapy: Lewis & Clark College
I work with teens to aging adults, specifically age 14 and older who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, anger, ADHD, eating disorder, end of life concerns, grief, and/or obsessive, intrusive thoughts. I also work with individuals with goals to increase their communication skills and/or adjust to a new phase of life such as age-related life changes, leaving highly controlled environments, or have experienced religious trauma.
