Hello! I am so happy you are here. I want to share a bit about myself as a therapist.
I love working with people who present “fine” on the outside but may be struggling to keep it together on the inside. I believe fostering curiosity and understanding in times of distress is the best way to begin making meaningful change. I also emphasize that I am not the judge of the “right” way to live. You know yourself the best. My job is to help you explore what a life worth living means to you and to support you in taking steps towards that life. In my experience, that journey requires flexibility because life is always changing!
I worked alongside individuals from all walks of life in my time during higher levels of care. Now, I find myself working most closely with individuals with eating disorders, anxiety, and OCD. However, my emphasis on curiosity and flexibility benefits many clients. My therapeutic approach is rooted most firmly in RODBT, DBT, ACT, and EMDR, focusing on flexibility and best practices in the field to create a path towards healing.
What to expect from working with me:
– Starting slow! I want to get to know you and for you to know yourself better before we jump into skills/coping techniques
– Trying new things! I encourage my clients to try new skills and ways of responding to others as they develop their relationship with themselves
– Curiosity! We will learn to approach feared or distressing emotions as experiences we can learn from, rather than automatically avoiding them or trying to fix them
– Systems-based approach! I understand how systems big and small can be detrimental to mental health. I strive to find a balance of acknowledging those impacts while also empowering you to take control when you can
– Honesty! I will never tell you what to do, but I will point out blind spots and give feedback. I welcome people telling me when I got it wrong though; that’s part of the journey building trust in the therapeutic relationship
– Laughs! We are all quirky humans that need to lovingly have a chuckle at ourselves from time to time
Originally from California, I moved to Washington for a couple of years, where I fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. After a handful of years living in the Midwest, I am loving living in my favorite part of the country again!
