Is Couples Therapy Right for You?
Healthy relationships don’t just “fall into place.” Even the strongest partnerships require communication, trust, and consistent effort. At Willamette Wellness Center in Milwaukie, Oregon, our couples counselors work with clients from Portland, Clackamas County, Washington County, and across Oregon and Washington to strengthen connection and navigate conflict in healthier ways. We know that every relationship faces challenges — and that conflict, when understood and handled well, can actually deepen closeness. If you’re looking for local couples counseling, or want support in rebuilding trust, improving communication, or creating a stronger foundation together, you’re in the right place.
Our Approach to Couples Counseling
We see you as unique individuals with your own stories, experiences, and perspectives that shape the way that you interact with your partner/s and relationship in ways that you may not be aware of. We aim to create a therapeutic space that is tailored to your individual needs, creating a judgment-free zone where partners can express themselves freely and explore what makes their connection unique. We’re here to listen, guide, and provide you with practical tools to enhance your bond so that you can leave each session feeling more attuned to each other’s needs and desires.
Some areas we often explore include:
- Improving communication skills
- Rebuilding trust and intimacy
- Managing conflict in healthy ways
- Balancing individual needs with relationship goals
- Navigating life transitions together
- Affair/Trust Rupture and Repair
- Gender and sexuality issues
- Financial stressors and impacts of finances on the family
Trauma-Informed Counseling for Portland-area Couples
At WWC, our couples counseling is grounded in trauma-informed care for both partners. Many couples in the Oregon City, Lake Oswego, and around the Portland metro area seek support because past trauma can shape communication, emotional responses, and the patterns that show up in a relationship. Our mission is to help individuals acknowledge how the negative experiences they have been through may be showing up in their lives so that they can learn to move past their initial fight, flight, or freeze reaction, and instead rely on evidence-based and holistic approaches to address what has caused them pain.
For many people, understanding the root causes of their reactions and feelings may be challenging, especially when they are trying to communicate these struggles with their partner. But we want to reaffirm that the vulnerability you practice in couples counseling sessions can lead to a healthier, communicative, and passionate connection for everyone involved.
A Safe Space to Reconnect & Grow
We are a local, community-based therapy practice that takes pride in being a welcoming, accessible space for everyone. We believe that everyone should feel supported and heard, regardless of their background, identity, or economic situation. Our couples counselors have a Master’s Degree or higher, and have taken advanced courses in couples counseling to ensure you are in the best of hands.
