Ashley Tidwell

LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Hello my name is Ashley and it is nice to meet you! My pronouns are she/her.

I began my journey in psychology and mental health more than a decade ago, after my own journey in healing inspired me to pursue a career as a helper.  It is my goal and passion to facilitate the journey of others into finding within themselves a reservoir of resiliency and strength, which will give them greater peace of mind, more secure relationships, and overall wellness.  My goal in working with you will be to help identify how your modes of conduct may be inhibiting your wellness, and to assist you in finding the tools to live your life as your most authentic and whole self.

As a primary focus I work with trauma, and the numerous ways that trauma presents itself in the body and mind.  Trauma impacts many of us in ways that we may not even be aware of, and it is my ambition to help my client discover possible trauma influences, and to heal and transition through these to ultimately become more centered and whole.

I also specialize in sexuality work, with a focus on gender, LGBTQ+, and sex positivity & education.  It is my belief that sexuality is an intrinsic part of our humanity, and we are often brought up in situations where open dialog about it is shamed or avoided all together.  It is my goal to provide an atmosphere of openness, positivity, learning, and awareness of one’s sexual self and its role in overall wellness.

A great deal of my personal work and expertise lies in individuals recovering from toxic faith systems.  It is my belief that faith systems can provide a great deal of value into a person’s life and livelihood, however there are situations where people have been taken advantage of inside of systems intended to provide refuge and support.  It is my goal to aid in the journey of working through those breaks and traumatic circumstances, and to help rebuild the peace and safety lost.

Education

I currently hold a Masters degree in Counseling (MA) from George Fox University (2012)

Clinical Specialties

I primarily utilize Attachment Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I specialize in providing treatment, support and education around sexuality/gender/sex positivity, recovery from toxic faith systems, and support for our LGBTQ+ community.   I am strengths based, and believe in practicing with unconditional positive regard as a central tenant.  I believe that within every individual, there exists a reservoir of resiliency that enables them to overcome the obstacles that they encounter on their path, and it is my goal to work with a client to unearth those strengths and use them to flourish.
