Professional Counseling Associate
Hello my name is Jules and it is nice to meet you! My pronouns are She/Hers
I’m a mental health therapist located in Oregon, welcoming to people of diverse social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults presenting with issues related to depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and loss, history of abuse, sexual assault, sexual and gender identity, and self-harm. In my approach, traumatic experiences must be approached through a trauma informed lens, meaning creating an environment that understands trauma as multifaceted while minimizing risk of re-traumatization. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi and went on to complete a Master of Education in Counseling and Development from Lamar University.
In my practice, it is important to understand systematic oppression as it affects marginalized communities, including BIPOC and LGBTQIAP2S+, as our environment affects our mental wellbeing. Through acknowledging oppression, we begin understanding negative thoughts we hold about ourselves that were predetermined for us by generations before our time. It is my belief everyone has strengths and identifying these strengths can help us break through negative beliefs to live a more fulfilling life. Another perspective relevant to my practice, is the inclusion of feminism and a sex positive belief system, as these areas are important in understanding relationships with ourselves and with others. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy are utilized with fundamental techniques focused on listening to personal stories that may have changed through circumstances out of your control and identifying negative thought processes brought on by these experiences. We all have a memory of times in our lives where we felt the safest, and I’m driven to help others find strength in their abilities and develop their own sense of safety by utilizing evidence-based practices.
It is my goal in each session to promote comfortability and moving at your own pace, to promote authenticity in our conversations. There is no correct method to participate in therapy and through learning about your expectations, we can collaborate on treatment with your goals in mind. Thank you for allowing me to become a part of your journey.
